Useful Expressions

When you're discussing topics they are some expressions you can use to sound more natural in English, for example to ask somebody's opinion "Helen, what do you think about this?", to state your opinion "The way I see it..." or to interrupt if the other speakers don't let you talk "Can I add something here?".

Besides, it's also necesary to agree or disagree with others in a conversation. So, you can use "I'm with you on this" to agree, or "I'm not sure about that" to disagree.

These are only some examples, but there are many others you can use.

Here you have a document with a list of useful expressions. I recommend you print it and use it when discussig topics. It's good practice for the exam!

Sample Writing Tasks

I know, I know! You're all very worried about the exam at this point. However, you shouldn't be, since we've been working hard the whole year and you're more than prepared for it, as I told you in class.

Some of you asked about the writing exam and the possibility of encountering a writing task from previous years in the final exam. I recommended you to check all the writing tasks in the advanced and upper-intermediate books.

Besides, one of your classmates told me about a webpage with examples of writing texts for your level (B2). In fact, it's quite an interesting webpage since it includes not only the sample texts but also explanatory notes and useful expressions. So, you can have a look at it in order to study for your exam.

Have a good study time!

Work & Unemployment Vocabulary

I've created a list of vocabulary on the topic of work and unemployment. You might find it useful when discussing this current topic, as we're going to do in class today.

Perhaps you've already created your own list. You should have done it, since it's a way to study this vocabulary. But for all of you who forgot or didn't find the time... here you go.

Verb Patterns

The other day in class you asked me for a list of all these types of verbs which are followed by an -ing form or a "to" + infinitive, etc. And there you are, a very comprehensive list. Very useful, indeed!

Now it's your turn to learn it. I recommend you to learn the verbs within a sentence since it's easy to remember words in context.

Slang

Would you understand me if I say...
"Last Saturday Tom pulled an allnighter,
and he was so plastered
that he was busted by the police"?

Slang is an important part of spoken language.
If you listen to friends talking in the street,
they're probably using slang to communicate.

Kara Simmons showed you in class a very funny presentation about slang, so you can get an idea of what it's like using slang. If you missed it (because you played hooky) you can still view the presentation on the following link:

Here you can download Kara's documents on slang:

Hey Students!
Remember in our school we have the Easter Wiki Project.

You can participate by writing about Easter in Hellin or in any other Spanish town.
If you know a lot about Easter write about it.
If not, you can also talk about your own experience, about how you live Easter time.
You can include pictures, videos or you can even record a message.

Come on, enter the site and read your classmates messages and include your own.

You can use the following English vocabulary for the wiki.
