CLASS 24TH MARCH 2020 - ENVIRONMENT

Hi there! Here you are some activities on the environment to finish with unit 11.

First of all, READING: read this brief text and do tasks 1 and 2.

China has big plans to reduce single-use plastics by 2025. It is fast-tracking measures to cut the production and use of plastics in the next five years. By the end of 2020, non-biodegradable plastic bags will be banned in major cities. Food delivery and takeaway services, which use a lot of plastic, will stop using single-use plastic straws and cutlery. These will be banned nationwide. They will use alternative things, like biodegradable shopping bags.
Single-use plastics are a big source of pollution. They are a part of our daily life and throwaway culture. China wants to reduce overconsumption to reverse our use of plastics. Previous regulations on plastic use, in 2008, cut the production of 67 billion bags. The United Nations said all countries needed similar policies. It said the world cannot cope with the amount of plastic waste we generate, We must rethink how we manufacture, use and manage plastics.

Snow, snow, snow!

Just a few weeks ago it snowed a lot in several parts of Spain, including our region. Being from the south of Spain it's very rare for me to see snow, and I must confess I smile like a child when I see it. However, it can be dangerous when you need to travel.

Now it seems to be snowing again! Not only in our region but all over Europe. Read the following article to see how snow is affecting countries around the world.

Do you like it when it snows?

And if you want to do some research on this topic, read the following article.

Multitasking: saving or wasting time?

Today I want to share with you a very interesting article I've found on multitasking, since we've been discussing this in class. All of us are nowadays good at multitasking, or that's what we believe. I must confess I'm uploading a photo on my mobile while writing this post. In fact, I recall I've been multitasking all my life. I used to do my homework while watching TV when I was little. But is it really a good idea to do this? It seems research wants to show us that we're wasting our time more than saving it. Have a look at the following article on this topic and decide for yourself.

So, what do you think? Share your opinion in a comment!

Stepfamilies

In our society it's so common nowadays to have half-brothers and half-sisters, stepbrothers and stepsisters, single-parent families, two fathers or two mothers, etc., so we can say that the traditional concept of family has changed completely. We've already discussed this topic in class. Now, have a look at this article.

Home Spa

We talked in class about natural medicine and we all know there are many natural or alternative remedies. Obviously they aren't a solution for everything. In my opinion traditional and natural medicine can complement each other. Moreover, the remedy or treatment we use would depend on the illness we want to treat.

If we think about stress and our stressful society, natural remedies can help us fight against it. Have you ever tried aromatherapy, for example? Would you like to create a home spa?

Then, have a look at the following article.
