NEW WRITING TASK - FILM REVIEW

Hey students!
We're going to study a new type of writing related to unit 7, the film review. First of all, we're going to see an example and do the activities in the sample sheet.

Then, you'll have to write your own review of a film. Remember to think before writing! Plan your content and divide it in 4 parapgrahs:
  • Paragraph 1: the name of the film, the director, the stars and the prizes it won.
  • Paragraph 2: where and when it is set, where it was filmed.
  • Paragraph 3: the plot  (always in present simple)
  • Paragraph 4: why you recommend this film.

You should write about 180 words and send it to me by email. Have a nice practice!

Besides, you need to do vocabulary practice 10B on page 149 (check answers here). Remember unit 10 is the only one in our book we won't study, but we've already seen the grammar practice in unit 10 and this vocab today.

Sample Writing Tasks

I know, I know! You're all very worried about the exam at this point. However, you shouldn't be, since we've been working hard the whole year and you're more than prepared for it, as I told you in class.

Some of you asked about the writing exam and the possibility of encountering a writing task from previous years in the final exam. I recommended you to check all the writing tasks in the advanced and upper-intermediate books.

Besides, one of your classmates told me about a webpage with examples of writing texts for your level (B2). In fact, it's quite an interesting webpage since it includes not only the sample texts but also explanatory notes and useful expressions. So, you can have a look at it in order to study for your exam.

Have a good study time!

Happy Easter

Hey students!
Enjoy the holiday & remember to take
a lot of pictures & videos to include them in our wiki!

Homework for Easter:

Reading and Writing Portfolio 4 which you can find in the workbook on pages 76-77. It's a book review. So, if you have read a second book, write its review. If not, you can write a film review which follows the same structure.

The deadline for this composition is Monday 16th or Tuesday 17th April.

Luck

We talked in class about believing or not in luck, and if we think some people are born lucky or not. If you didn't have time in class to express your opinion or if you have more to say on this subject, write a comment! We can continue the class debate in here.

Do you want to know my opinion?

I believe luck exists. I think it's one more thing we have in life. However, I strongly believe that one person can change his/her luck if they try hard enough. One of my favourite quotations about luck is "Luck meets a prepared mind".

Do you know more quotations on luck?

Riders

Do you remember the other day in class we were talking about musicians and their riders? A rider is a specific request made by musicians in their contracts.

Check out this one by Barbara Streisand about security during shows.

“This tour requires metal detectors at all entrance doors, including backstage and all employee entrances. These must be actively controlled throughout the entirety of show day and the performance. Also, there will need to be a thorough inspection of the facility by a police
K9 prior to sound check."

Here's what you have to do:

Surf the Internet and find an interesting rider to share with your classmates. Write it in a comment!

Our Wiki on Easter

Hey Students!
Remember in our school we have the Easter Wiki Project.

You can participate by writing about Easter in Hellin or in any other Spanish town.
If you know a lot about Easter write about it.
If not, you can also talk about your own experience, about how you live Easter time.
You can include pictures, videos or you can even record a message.

Come on, enter the site and read your classmates messages and include your own.

You can use the following English vocabulary for the wiki.
